Biz and the Bike
Good chance I'll be logging heavy minutes at Animoto. Pretty amazing stuff and no doubt more impressive after digging deeper. Too bad the widget width swells my blog walls.

The Skinless Pig
It's Valentine's Day, so naturally I'm thinking Webmail. SusCom Webmail in fact...

As disappointing as it is, I've still got a Comcast.net email account that I infrequently check online. With all the $$ tossed about in this article, you'd think the pig could give me some skins!

Great use of something that's not flash
When I first came across the site linked below, I thought "now that's a great use of flash." After pulling and sliding the tab for awhile, I thought I'd give it a right-click to be sure. Much to my bewilderment, it wasn't flash at all. Can you believe it?

A view of the source code indicates that it's javascript. Maybe Jarva was onto something back at SWAT when he just called everything a java.

I'm Back
"I'm back."
So it's been about a month since my last post, plenty long enough to be put officially on notice. And I realize that I need to make a splash if I ever hope to regain the readership of my 5 & 1/2 loyals. (That figure might be a reach actually.) With the pressure to deliver staring me down with raised eyebrow, I give you...

... the best icon I've seen on the worldwide during my hiatus! Isn't this a great "Contact Us" icon? Sure this features an obvious means of communication, but IntelliContact managed to use a phone style that's familiar in the real-world, but uncommon as an icon. I say a job well done IC.
Won't you agree?

Two New Sites
I've really been enjoying these two new-to-me sites lately:
www.pandora.com
Pancakes recommended this streaming music site to me and since it is apparent the Old Man won't be blogging about it anytime soon, I thought I'd share the magic of Pandora with you. The service is free and simple. Type in an artist or song and a stream of songs is generated based on songs with matching criteria in Pandora's vast database of tunes. My "Run D.M.C. Radio" station first plays a Run D.M.C. song, often rarely heard album cuts, then jumps to the likes of Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, etc. Run D.M.C. songs are mixed in with more frequency since they're the group originally entered. Give it a try.
indexed.blogspot.com
Heptagons, x-coordinates, bar graphs... all on 3" x 5" notecards that make you think and oftentimes laugh. I find this to be a clever and very unique blog. And how about the process: Scan in an index card and post to blog, if it receives heavy feedback, offer the same graphic on a tee-shirt. Check it out.

800x600

8.01%.
That's the percentage of the Institute's site visitors that viewed our site in November on an 800x600 monitor. I have yet to wipe the cringe off my face. At least the number falls to 6.63% when dated back to the beginning of August, when Analytics was applied to our site.

AdWords Thought
It was mentioned during this morning's meeting that San Diego Golf Academy is considered our primary competition in the Golf Course Management market. So I thought I'd check out their site, and Googled them by company name. Obviously, they were right there near the top on the results page, but the same URL appeared as a sponsored link. I spared them a buck and clicked on the standard listing, but a negative keyword addition to their AdWords campaign would remove the possibility of having to pay for a click they would have gotten anyway. Could there be a benefit that I'm overlooking?
How do you get Travis to actually click on a blog title displayed on his start page via RSS? I'm sure something like "Panther Football", "Ricky Gervais", or "Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits" would induce a click. I call them FloodWords. I'm also guessing "AdWords" is a FloodWord.

Failure to Launch
After many failed attempts, The Institute's newly redesigned web site will be going live Monday at 10am-ish. However, Blah, Blah, Blog has acquired this exclusive sneak preview of the forthcoming design:

4,225 square pixels of site
enlarged by 300%!
Software/Scripts that I'll vouch for:

New Desktops

Anyway, 5 new desktops have been added to my site, which has a permanent link in the left column of this blog. They're fun to create so I hope to continue adding new ones in the coming months.

Inside Your Mouth
It's never a bad time to go Inside Your Mouth with Dr. Toothsdale. The only flash game I've ever created is still stashed away on a BlazeNet server: creation.blazenet.net. Now if I could only convince Palmer to hook up that High Score page.
